Facts About New Mexico:

While New Mexico is generally though to have both Spanish and English as its official language due to Spanish's wide use in the state, New Mexico currently has no official language, despite its original state constitution of 1912 that allowed a temporary bilingual government. Even so, both the state's official driver's manual and voting ballots are printed in both English and Spanish as required to do so by federal law.

New Mexico's original constitution dictated that for twenty years, all laws passed by the state government should be published in both languages, after which time the legislature should do as it see fit.

Before 1967, all state and county election notices only needed to be printed in English, with Spanish as an optional language. At present, however, most legal notices in New Mexico are required to be printed in both languages. In 1995, the state adopted a bilingual anthem; 'Mi Lindo Nuevo México', or 'My Pretty New Mexico'.
