New Hampshire:
As one of the original thirteen colonies in the American Revolution, New Hampshire has always played a special role in the United States, even though by the time of the Revolution it was a divided province.
The socio-economic life on the sea coast was centered around sawmills, shipyards, and merchant warehouses that supported the established villages and towns. Rich merchants large homes constructed, furnished them with the highest quality luxuries, and then continually invested their money in local business and land. On the other end of the wealth distribution we see day laborers, mariners, indentured servants, and black slaves.
Winning its only battle December 14th, 1774 in Portsmouth Harbor after Paul Revere's warning to the patriots the previous day, New Hampshire was the first state to declare its independence. The attack rendered the revolutionaries a large quantity of gunpowder, guns, and cannons as General Sullivan, leader of the raid described it "remainder of the powder, the small arms, bayonets, and cartouch-boxes, together with the cannon and ordnance stores", in just two nights.
Some say that powder captured in this ammunition raid was transported adjacent to Bunker Hill by Major Demerit just in time for the Battle of Bunker Hill. The powder is said to have been stored in civilian homes before it was transported; a felony under British rule.
